Based on the tradition of the Slavonski Brod Rotary club founded on 9 Dec. 1935, a group of enthusiasts started the initiative for reestablishing of the club and joining the great Rotary International family in the middle of 2007.
Rotary is a world organization of persons from professional and business life that decided to devote themselves to humanitarian goals, spreading of good will and understanding in the world and of persons who respect high ethical principles in business and private life. The goal of Rotary is to be ready to help in everyday life (”Service Above Self“). The creators of these ideas are some Rotarians whose members have gathered in Slavonski Brod, too. They are people who willingly accept the principle that sharing in Rotary does not mean giving away something which is excess to our needs but Sharing means unselfishly giving away a part of oneself for the benefit of others.
Every Slavonski Brod Rotary Club member will give a part of himself, his abilities and take a very active part in achievement of planned projects. We wish to organize genuine humanitarian actions and cultural events and help the education of the young by granting scholarships and all of that will be done to the pride of our town and Slavonia, and then to the whole Croatian Rotary Family.
We decided that our first project be working on improvement of traffic safety. It is planned to finance the placing of the tapes for sound warning for drivers at pedestrian crossings with high frequency of crossings, especially by children. Parallel with this activity adaptation of pedestrian crossings for disabled as well as of persons with impaired mobility will be financed. This should be just the beginning of our active engagement in accordance with Rotary’s general principles. We believe that we will, as a club and as individuals, with our everyday activities achieve defined goals and justify the high reputation of Rotary in the world, and actively participate in promotion of humanitarian campaigns and Rotary values, and help our town and area to approach wider community and the whole world.
